The legendary McLaren F1 now has a successor. The lightweight Gordon Murray S1 supercar retains the original three-seat layout, gold trim, and high-revving V12 engine.

The new Gordon Murray S1 debuted at Monterey Car Week (U.S.) and will go into production in 2027. Details about the supercar were shared on the GMA website.

McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray decided to create its successor. The supercar closely resembles its famous predecessor. It has the same silhouette with a forward-shifted cabin, familiar headlights, air intakes, and sculpted side panels, and the doors lift upward.

However, the Gordon Murray S1 is equipped with modern active aerodynamics. It is built around a carbon-fiber monocoque and weighs just 997 kg.

The interior layout is the same as that of the McLaren F1. The driver sits in the center, with two passengers on either side. The dashboard combines a classic tachometer dial with two screens. The interior is trimmed in leather and carbon fiber.

The Gordon Murray S1 supercar is powered by a high-revving 4.2-liter V12 from Cosworth, the company that manufactures engines for Formula 1. The engine produces 690 k. s. at 12,000 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. As in the McLaren F1, the engine bay is finished in gold for better heat dissipation.

A total of 64 Gordon Murray S1s are planned for production—the same number as the McLaren F1. The supercar’s price has not been disclosed, but it is known to be several million dollars.

As a reminder, the legendary McLaren F1 supercar was the fastest car of the 1990s. The lightweight (1,160 kg) coupe was equipped with a 6.1-liter BMW V12 engine producing 627 k.s., which allowed it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 386 km/h. The McLaren F1 cost one million dollars.
