Ukraine Set A New Record For Strikes Against Russia Twice In A Single Day

There have never been this many drones before.

On Saturday and Sunday, Ukraine twice in a row broke the war record for the number of drones launched in a single day. According to Russian authorities, over the past 24 hours, Russian air defense forces allegedly destroyed 1,478 aerial UAVs. If these figures are accurate, this represents a new all-time high for the war—with the previous record lasting less than a day.

The day before, on Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 1,328 drones had been shot down, which at that time was already the highest figure since the start of the war. Prior to this weekend, according to estimates by “Agency”, the record was considered to be 1,158 drones in a single day—a figure cited by the Russian military on August 2.

The Russian Ministry of Defense first recorded the milestone of 1,000 Ukrainian drones in a single day on May 17, reporting the destruction of 1,054 drones. Since then, the ministry has reported 11 more instances of attacks in which more than 1,000 drones were shot down in a single day—ten of these cases occurred in August, and another took place on July 25.

Until last Saturday, according to Russian reports, Ukraine had exceeded the 1,100-drone-per-day mark only four times during the war—on August 2, 6, 10, and 13. Now, however, this level has been exceeded for two consecutive days: first to 1,328, and then to 1,478 drones.

Against this backdrop, the Moscow Region came under one of the largest attacks of the war on Saturday night. According to the “Agency,” 187 drones were shot down over the region starting Saturday evening. Following the attack on Wildberries’ largest warehouse by area in the “Koledino” industrial park in Podolsk, a massive fire broke out.
