Kushner And Netanyahu Agreed On The Details Of A Peace Agreement For Gaza

Bloomberg has learned the details of the deal.

Trump's Special Representative Jared Kushnerassured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Israeli army would not be forced to withdraw its troops from Gaza until Hamas disarms. However, the deal’s implementation may be in question.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

On Monday, August 17, Kushner met with Netanyahu in Jerusalem—the day after holding talks with the Hamas leader in Egypt.

According to a spokesperson for the “Peace Council” (established by U.S. President Donald Trump), the U.S. and Israel have agreed that the Israeli military will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed and all of Gaza is demilitarized.

These conditions will likely be rejected by Hamas, which insists on the withdrawal of Israeli troops before Israel gives up its weapons. According to the official, disarmament would include the complete removal of both light and heavy weapons in Gaza, as well as Hamas’s tunnels.

Bloomberg reports that this impasse underscores just how difficult it will be for Kushner and the “Peace Council” to finalize an agreement on Gaza, and further dampens optimism regarding peace, despite Trump’s statement in late July that the council had reached a deal on Hamas’s disarmament.

What Kushner Says

Shortly after the Bloomberg report was published, Trump’s special envoy Jared Kushner spoke to Fox News. During the interview, he stated that progress on the demilitarization of Gaza could begin within 30 days following the recent talks with Netanyahu.

“We may see progress as early as 30 days from now. I hope we’ll start removing some of the weapons and, perhaps, fill in some of the tunnels within the next 60–90 days. For Israel, we view this as a win-win situation, because if Hamas voluntarily hands over its weapons and tunnels within the next 60–90 days, this will obviously eliminate a massive threat to Israel’s security, which is a virtually unthinkable achievement,” Kushner said.

He added that if Hamas fails to fulfill its promises, then Israel will receive much greater support from the U.S. and other countries “to properly complete the task at hand.”

Kushner also stated publicly that the U.S. will not allow the reconstruction of Gaza until demilitarization takes place.
