The search for the missing people has been suspended for now.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations denied reports that the bodies of the missing climbers from Belarus and Lithuania had been found. According to the agency, the climbers’ shoes were found on August 16 during the search operation. Their backpack, sleeping bag, and other personal belongings had been found earlier, reports Vesti.kg.
The search for the missing climbers has currently been suspended due to difficult conditions and the danger posed by melting ice at the summit.
The next phase of the search operation is tentatively scheduled for late August or September.
Earlier, Alexander Smirnov, a member of the search and rescue team, reported that the bodies of the missing climbers from Belarus and Lithuania were believed to have been found on Kurumdu Peak. They were located using a drone.
A group of three climbers went missing in early August after climbing Mount Kurumda. They are 43-year-old Maksim Polyansky, 60-year-old Nikolai Sviridov from Belarus, and 37-year-old Sergei Rubtsov from Lithuania.
