Two towns near Moscow lost power
Following the drone attack.
Following the nighttime raid by Ukrainian drones on the Moscow region, which was one of the largest since the war began, power was cut off in two cities in the eastern part of the Moscow Region. As TASS reported this morning, citing “Mosoblenergo,” the power outage was caused by “damage to power grid equipment belonging to a higher-level power grid organization, which resulted in the de-energization of 109 transformer substations,” leaving more than 10,000 customers and 46 public facilities without power in the urban districts of Likino-Dulevo and Orekhovo-Zuyevo. Starting at 5:30 a.m., a special operating mode was implemented on the grids of the Pavlovo-Posadsky branch of “Mosoblenergo.”
Local residents on social media, as reported by The Moscow Times, are complaining about power outages starting late at night. “Likino-Dulevo has been without power since 3:00 a.m. due to drones crashing,” — wrote one of the subscribers to the “Overheard in Orekhovo-Zuyevo” public group. “Mosoblenergo” assured that it planned to restore power by 8:30 a.m., but around 9:00 a.m., residents of Likino-Dulevo were still reporting a lack of power. Some users wrote that power had been restored in some areas, but “the voltage is low, and many appliances aren’t working.” According to Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, more than 150 Ukrainian Armed Forces drones were intercepted in the region overnight in Bogorodsk, Ramenskoye, Pavlovsky Posad, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Voskresensk, Stupino, Kolomna, and Elektrostal.
“Mosoblenergo” stated that several emergency crews have been deployed for restoration work, and 35 mobile power stations with a total capacity of 17 MW have been allocated.
The attack on Moscow and the Moscow Region was one of the most massive since the start of the war against Ukraine, according to official data. According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, from the evening of August 17 through the morning of August 18, 637 Ukrainian UAVs were launched toward the capital, at least 180 of which were shot down directly in the Moscow region.
