Belarusians Shared What They Don't Like About Russians

  • 18.08.2026, 16:04

It's strange that some people still consider us "brother nations."

Threads user @paxan00700 asked about the differences in mentality between Belarusians and Russians.

“What’s considered normal in Russia, but makes a Belarusian look on and go ‘Whoa…’?” he asked.

The post garnered about a thousand comments. The website Charter97.org lists some of them:

— Reckless driving on Belarusian roads.

— The ability to discuss buying a driver’s license over the phone and in front of witnesses.

— Fighting with neighbors.

— Killing people, robbing, raping, praying to Putin—well, there’s a long list.

— Nothing much, really, except chauvinism and some kind of paradoxical and inexplicable hatred toward Ukraine, as if Ukraine started all this and they’re just defending themselves.

— Nothing particularly noteworthy, except for chauvinism and some kind of paradoxical and inexplicable hatred toward Ukraine, as if Ukraine started all this and they’re just defending themselves.

— “We can do it again.” People in Belarus don’t have to put up with that.

— I’ll answer as a Belarusian: traffic rules in Russia. When my husband and I were in St. Petersburg, oh my… just seeing how they’d risk changing lanes even across a double solid line—and when I was nearly hit on a crosswalk—I had not a shred of doubt that they don’t give a damn about traffic laws there. The same goes for how they drive on our roads.

— Sitting online with a VPN and bragging about how great they are.

— The inability to improve their living environment.

— Violence, corruption, and bribes: when I worked on a restoration project, people openly discussed kickbacks right in front of me and speculated about “who would go to jail” for the technical supervisor’s signature. I can’t imagine anything like that happening in Belarus.

— Mountains of trash in every tree-lined strip along the highways. It feels like those plastic bottles have been lying there since they first appeared on Earth.

— The ability to lie for no reason—it’s practically a national trait.
