The "puma" That Caused An Alarm In Poland Turned Out To Be A Cat

Someone decided to play a prank.

Reports of an alleged puma sighting have caused quite a stir in the Mazovia Voivodeship of Poland. The unusual, large animal was spotted near the villages of Renbische-Parcel and Renbische-Dzaly in the municipality of Głowowo, not far from Ostrołęka, according to Fakt.pl.

Local authorities received several reports of an animal resembling a large wild cat. The editorial office of the Moja Ostrołęka portal even received a photo showing a slender animal with a long tail walking through the grass near houses.

As it turned out, the report of an exotic predator was a prank by one of the local residents. The municipal authorities rescinded the warning and apologized to residents for the concern it caused.

Officials also reminded the public that such “jokes” can not only cause panic but also divert emergency services from real incidents.
