Poland Has Lowered The VAT On Fuel

From 23% to 8%.
Starting August 17, price caps on gasoline and diesel fuel are in effect at gas stations throughout Poland.
The Polish government has once again implemented the “Lower Fuel Prices” program for the last two weeks of the vacation season, while simultaneously reducing the VAT on fuel from 23% to 8%.
As of midnight, a liter of 95-octane gasoline cannot cost more than 6 zlotys and 41 groszy, 98-octane gasoline cannot cost more than 7 zlotys and 20 groszy, and diesel cannot cost more than 7 zlotys and 37 groszy. This two-week fuel measure will cost the state budget half a billion zlotys.
With the return of price caps and increased traffic during the vacation season, questions have arisen about the stability of supplies. Poland’s Minister of Energy Milosz Motyka, however, assures that the market is fully supplied:
“The market is fully supplied and absolutely stable. We have the necessary contracts, and there are no plans to tap into strategic reserves either.”.
Energy Minister Milosz Motyka also stated on TVP Info that fuel prices will be calculated each time after wholesale prices are received:
“Every day by 9:00 a.m., we ask wholesale suppliers to report prices on the wholesale market. Then we can say that this is a fully verified mechanism. Previously—and I don’t want to cite specific figures here—we would not publish a statement from the Energy Minister at 12:00 p.m. on the Government Legislation Portal listing tomorrow’s prices. But, at the very least, there shouldn’t be any drastic, major changes compared to what we’re seeing on price tags today.”
The Polish government’s program to lower fuel prices will remain in effect until August 31.
