Explosions have been heard in the Russian city of Saratov, as well as in the neighboring city of Engels, and a fire has broken out. According to local reports, an oil refinery and an industrial zone are under attack by drones.
Monitoring channels report that the Saratov oil refinery and the local industrial zone may have been hit. This has been noted by experts from the Exilenova+ project.
Monitors are also reporting a series of explosions in the city of Engels in the Saratov Region near the airfield. It is at this airfield that Russian strategic bombers, the Tu-95 and Tu-160.
The publication Astra confirms the fires and explosions in Saratov and Engels. They add that locals heard loud noises and saw the fire break out after the strike.
Later, monitoring groups reported that a drone explosion and a fire in a high-rise building occurred as a result of Russian air defense operations. No precise information has been received yet, and Russian officials have not yet commented on the attack.
Later, the Falcon Insight project confirmed that a local oil refinery had been struck. According to the project’s experts, the following facilities were hit: the LCh-35-11/600 catalytic reforming unit, the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, the L-35-11/300 catalytic reforming unit, as well as the pentane-hexane fraction isomerization unit.
“One of the fire hotspots may be the result of a flare stack fire,” the experts write.
