The “Grigorovshchina–Paternieki” border crossing on the Belarus-Latvia border has been closed since Friday evening. Officials in Riga say the problem is technical, but have not specified when the crossing will reopen, according to "Belsat".
On the evening of July 31, Latvian authorities announced the temporary closure of the “Paternieki” border crossing—the last crossing point operating on the border with Belarus.
“Technical malfunctions have been observed in the information systems, making border control impossible at this time. The causes and the possible timeframe for resolving the issues are still unclear,” the Latvian Border Guard reported that day, and no further official information has been provided since then.
According to “Beltamozhservice,” one passenger car (the driver registered in the electronic queue on the morning of August 1) and 57 trucks are currently waiting to cross from Belarus into Latvia via “Grigorovshchina.”
In Telegram chats, travelers claim that since the announcement of the crossing’s closure, Latvian border guards have nevertheless allowed eight passenger cars to pass, likely due to the presence of children among the passengers. Some vehicles had to wait more than a day.
“Thus, it’s clear that there is no ‘glitch.’ It is physically possible to cross the border; it’s closed in ‘manual’ mode,” the travelers conclude.
Meanwhile, it goes without saying that after this checkpoint was closed, lines at other border crossings have grown significantly. In Brest right now, according to the State Border Committee, 500 cars are waiting to cross into Poland—the same number as last Sunday.
In Berestovitsa, there are 80 passenger cars in the electronic queue—the same number as a week ago.
There are currently 215 vehicles in Bruzgi. This is an unusual number for this location, though not a record: last week there were as many as 240.
At the border with Lithuania, at the “Kamenny Log” and “Benyakoni” checkpoints, there are 150 cars at each; such lines often form there.
