Ukrainian Defense Forces Struck Two Key Oil And Gas Plants In Russia

Details have emerged from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the night of August 25, the Defense Forces struck two key facilities in Russia’s oil and gas industry—the Afipsk Oil Refinery and the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant.
Specifically, drones attacked Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, and explosions were heard in the region. As a result of the attack, the Afipsk oil refinery was hit, and a railway station was damaged.
The attack on the oil refinery was confirmed by the region’s governor Veniamin Kondratyev. He wrote on Telegram that a fire broke out on the grounds of the oil refinery in the village of Afipsky. In addition, he reported that at least 10 private homes in the town were damaged, and that drone debris fell onto the grounds of the train station.
Footage from the scene has been posted online, showing flames and thick black smoke rising from the site of the fire.
The Afipsky Refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia, with an annual processing capacity of 6.25 million metric tons of crude oil. This accounts for more than 2% of Russia’s total crude oil refining volume. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, gas oil, vacuum gas oil, fuel oil, sulfur, and gas condensate distillates, and plays a vital role in supplying the Russian economy and military with diesel fuel.
The Defense Forces last attacked this refinery in mid-July.
In addition, it is reported that on the night of August 25, operations at the Afipskaya station of the North Caucasus Railway were halted as a result of a drone attack.
“There are casualties and fatalities. There are delays in rail traffic,” according to a statement from the Russian prosecutor’s office.

A fire on the plant’s premises has been confirmed. The extent of the damage is being assessed.
In addition, it has been confirmed that two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant in the Astrakhan Region of Russia were struck on the night of August 24.
The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is a major enterprise in Russia’s gas processing industry and is part of the Gazprom system. Its design capacity is up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas per year and approximately 7.3 million metric tons of gas condensate per year. The facility produces marketable natural gas, stable gas condensate, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied hydrocarbon gases, and technical sulfur.
The products of the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant are used to supply the Russian armed forces, and the technical sulfur is used in the production of explosives.
