Country Music Legend Dolly Parton Has Passed Away

The U.S. President ordered that the flag be flown at half-mast for a week in all states.

American singer, songwriter, and country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 81. The news was announced by her nephew, Brian Seaver, on Instagram.

According to Seaver, Dolly Parton had asked him specifically many years ago to be the one to announce her death.

“I was the head of her security for over two decades; before me, my father Larry held that position. And I had imagined how difficult this moment would be, but I hadn’t truly felt it until now,” he admitted.

In September 2025, Dolly Parton canceled her concert due to an infection, and in May 2026, she canceled her Las Vegas residency.

On August 21, Parton shared an update on her health, noting that her condition had worsened in March 20205—following the death of her husband Carl Dean.

Dolly Parton is the best-selling female country artist of all time—she has sold over 160 million albums worldwide. The singer is best known for her hits “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” Over the course of her career, she has topped Billboard’s country charts 25 times and won numerous awards, including 10 Grammy Awards. She became one of the few singers to have been nominated for at least one award in each of the EGOT categories (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony).

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast throughout the country for one week following reports of the singer’s death. He called her one of the greatest country singers.

“This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and there never will be. In her honor, I am ordering the American flag to be flown at half-mast throughout the United States for one week, beginning tonight at 6:00 p.m. Rest in peace, Dolly!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
