The Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities responded.
Why do dog owners pay a tax, but cat owners don’t, explained Nadezhda Sevruk, deputy head of the Housing Department at the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of Belarus , to BelTA.
— Why do dog owners pay the tax, but owners of other companion animals do not? First and foremost, this is linked to the maintenance and cleanup of public areas. Today, the tax is not earmarked for a specific purpose. It simply goes into the local budget, which decides for itself how to allocate it,” she said.
According to the deputy head of the department, owners are becoming more responsible and are increasingly registering their pets.
