Protests are taking place right at the “Verkhny Lars” checkpoint.
In Georgia, supporters of the "United National Movement" party staged protests on August 25 over Russian tourists at the border between the two countries.
It is reported that representatives of the movement traveled to the “Upper Lars” checkpoint to express their dissatisfaction over the arrival of tourists. According to them, Russian citizens are coming to Georgia not only for vacation but also to buy real estate and start businesses there. The party’s council chairman Irakli Pavlenishvili stated that all of this poses a threat to Georgia’s statehood.
A party supporter also pointed out that Russian citizens are obtaining Georgian citizenship en masse.
