Ukrainian Border Guards Have Responded To The Construction Of A Training Range Near Gomel

The threat from Belarus continues.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine commented on construction of new military infrastructure in the Gomel Region near the Ukrainian border. Officials in Kyiv believe that Belarus continues to expand its capabilities for troop deployment and logistics; however, no changes or troop buildup are currently being observed directly along the border, according to "Ukrainska Pravda".

This refers to a new military training ground near the Yakimovka station in the Rechitsa district. As previously reported by the “Belarusian Railway Workers’ Community,” a separate railway branch line is being built to the facility, which will allow trains to enter directly onto the training ground’s territory. The project calls for a track designed to accommodate up to 60 railcars, as well as platforms and ramps for unloading equipment.

Andrei Demchenko , spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine , stated that Ukrainian intelligence is monitoring the construction of such facilities.

“As we can see, the threat from Belarus persists, and Belarus itself is actively contributing to this,” he said.

According to Demchenko, Minsk continues to develop military infrastructure along the Ukrainian border, despite Alexander Lukashenko’s statements that Belarus has no intention of attacking Ukraine.

The State Border Service spokesperson linked the construction, among other things, to the creation of a new airborne assault brigade in Belarus. He said that the railroad line and the training ground could be used for military purposes, and that the new facilities expand the capacity for troop deployment and the creation of logistical routes.

At the same time, Demchenko emphasized that the situation immediately near the Ukrainian border has not changed.

“No changes have been observed in the immediate vicinity of our border at this time,” he stated.

According to the “Belarusian Railway Workers’ Community,” the training ground is being built in a forested area near the Yakimovka station. A railway branch line more than a kilometer long is intended to connect it to the BelZhD station. In addition to the track, the project includes loading and unloading infrastructure, communications, lighting, and other systems for servicing railcars.
