He declined to resign from military service and from civilian positions.

Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has enrolled in a doctoral program at the National Defense University of Ukraine (NDU), which is part of the Defense Forces, according to hromadske citing sources close to him. After his discharge, the 61-year-old general underwent a routine medical examination, during which he was deemed fit for military service, so he decided to remain in the ranks of the Ukrainian army.

“He turned down civilian positions,” the media quoted a source as saying. “He will continue doing what he has done his entire life—systematizing and passing on his accumulated experience to Ukrainian and Western military personnel.”

Currently, the former commander-in-chief is “considering the topic and conducting negotiations” regarding his future dissertation, hromadske reports.
