After The Explosion At A Moscow Restaurant, Panic Broke Out Among Russian Propagandists

Russian propaganda media began publishing apocalyptic reports following the explosion near the Balzi Rossi restaurant in central Moscow, noted “Dialog”.
Russian security forces have already accused Ukraine of the terrorist attack. In a screenshot from the publication “First Russian,” the headline reads: “A hellish delivery. An explosion at the birthday party of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the very center of Moscow—this is a death sentence for all of us.” The article claims that the explosion occurred several hundred meters from the Russian government building, near the Balzi Rossi restaurant, where, according to Russian sources, a birthday celebration was being held for the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Colonel General Alexander Chaiko. Russian media, which usually try to portray the war as distant and under control, are now openly speaking of a “death sentence for all of us” and are effectively acknowledging that even the center of Moscow and events attended by high-ranking military officials no longer appear to be safe.
Separately, Russians are linking the explosion to Ukrainian long-range strikes and Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s request to Donald Trump to authorize the use of Starlink for operations deep inside Russia. The article claims that Kyiv needs a guidance channel to target Russian mobile launchers.
Context
On the evening of August 1, 2026, an improvised explosive device with a yield of approximately 1 kg of TNT equivalent, filled with metal balls, detonated at the Balzi Rossi restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow. The bomb was inside a gift box delivered by a female courier (who was presumably unaware of its contents); the explosion occurred at the entrance when a security guard stopped her. As of August 2, the death toll had risen to five (three died at the scene, including the security guard and the courier; two others died in the hospital), more than 20 people were injured, and at least six remain in critical condition. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under the article on terrorist acts. According to media reports, the attack may have targeted a private celebration marking the 55th birthday of General Alexander Chaiko, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
