Beijing has given assurances that it will never allow Russia to use nuclear weapons.

China will not allow Russia to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. The most the Kremlin can do to escalate the war is the mobilization expected this fall.

This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, according to Bild.

According to the Finnish president, he spoke with a high-ranking Chinese official who assured him that Beijing would not allow a nuclear attack by Russia.

“The Chinese foreign minister visited me this summer, and I raised this issue. He said, ‘We will never allow that to happen.’ And I believe that this is a fairly effective deterrent,” Stubb noted.

He also emphasized that Moscow’s goal is for Europe to fear its threat and discuss it.

“Russia wants us Europeans to sit here and debate: Will Russia escalate the conflict further? Will Russia use nuclear weapons? Will Russia attack NATO and Europe?” the president said.

Stubb added that, in reality, Russia can only escalate the war in one way.

“So far, Russia’s options for escalation have been quite limited. The only way Russia could further escalate the conflict is through mobilization. And mobilization, in my opinion, would have domestic political consequences for Russia,” the politician stated.
