Laura Lumer is calling on Trump supporters to support Ukraine.
Influential American activist and blogger Laura Loomer plans to visit the White House this month to discuss with Donald Trump her recent trip to Ukraine, as well as a fundamental shift in her views on Russia’s war against Ukraine. This was reported by The Washington Post.
According to the publication, Trump continues to view Lumer favorably, noting her tenacity and personal dedication. During her stay in Ukraine, the activist spoke with the U.S. president by phone twice.
What makes this story particularly significant is that for years, Loomer had sharply criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy and opposed U.S. aid to Ukraine. However, after her trip to Kyiv, she returned as a staunch supporter of a strategic alliance with Ukraine and now seeks to convey to the American public the idea that Russia, in fact, poses the key threat.
The visit to Ukraine brought Lumer widespread recognition—she interviewed President Zelenskyy and one of the Ukrainian commanders on the front lines. In addition, she managed to convince Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner—both of whom she knows well—to make their first trip to Kyiv.
“I feel like I’ve changed world politics,” Lumer said in a phone call with reporters from The Washington Post.
The activist also called on her fellow MAGA movement supporters to reconsider their stance on the conflict and the role of the United States on the world stage. In her updated argument, Lumer links Ukraine’s resistance to Russian aggression not only to European security issues but also to Trump’s actions regarding Iran. In this way, she is attempting to portray Ukraine not as a recipient of aid, but as a full-fledged U.S. ally in a broader confrontation with forces hostile to American interests.
As the publication’s commentators note, this story holds particular significance for Kyiv—it is not merely about a change in the views of a single influential activist, but about an attempt to foster pro-Ukrainian sentiment among that segment of the American right-wing electorate where skepticism and criticism of the Ukrainian leadership have long prevailed.
