Former Ukrainian Ambassador To The U.S. Stefanishina Has Been Charged

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) have charged the former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishina, according to "Ukrainska Pravda" reports, citing sources in anti-corruption agencies.

According to the sources, the charges relate to illicit enrichment.

Stefanishyna herself responded to the charges brought by NABU and the SAP, stating that she has nothing to hide.

In a post on “Facebook”, published on Wednesday, August 5, Stefanyishyna stated that since she began her work as a media ambassador, the issue of “procedural actions by certain law enforcement agencies,” in which her name also appears, has come up “with some regularity.”

“Any legal proceedings are part of the legitimate work of the law enforcement system and do not constitute a finding of guilt. I view these events calmly and without undue emotion, and the fuss surrounding this story is more like a storm in a teacup,” she wrote.

According to the former ambassador, she publicly addressed most of the questions regarding her real estate over a year ago and provided journalists with documents pertaining to her apartment.

“I had nothing to hide then, and I have nothing to hide now. I dedicated more than ten years to serving the state. Some have already been quick to suggest that my diplomatic posting overseas would provide me with a convenient distance from uncomfortable questions. But the mission has been successfully completed, and I am in Ukraine to answer these questions here. Distance will be neither a shield nor an excuse,” Stefanyishyna emphasized.

She added that she would stand her ground and had no doubts about the outcome.
