Georgia Has Experienced Its Third Blackout In Two Weeks

Tbilisi is completely without power.

On the evening of Wednesday, August 5, Georgia experienced a power outage. The blackout occurred simultaneously in the capital, Tbilisi, and other regions.

This was reported by the local "Radio Liberty" service.

The power went out around 8:10 p.m., and social media users are posting about towns and villages left without electricity.

The Pirveli TV channel noted that intercity train service was suspended due to the power outage. In particular, passengers on a train traveling from Zugdidi to Tbilisi reported the suspension.

In Tbilisi itself, the metro has stopped running. People are complaining about disruptions to mobile service.

The causes of the widespread power outage are currently unknown. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that it is attempting to obtain information from the power companies Telasi, Telmico, ENERGO-PRO Georgia, and the State Energy System.

On the evening of July 23, Tbilisi and several other cities in Georgia lost power. At that time, the power also went out simultaneously in nearly all districts of the Georgian capital and in several other regions.

This blackout was followed by another one that occurred on the morning of July 25. At that time, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Georgian service reported that the Georgian State Security Service had launched an investigation under the sabotage statute.
