The Russian Foreign Ministry Urged Russians To Be Prepared For A Protracted War With Ukraine

Rodion Miroshnik , Ambassador-at-Large for the Russian Foreign Ministry , stated in an interview with TASS that Russia must be prepared for protracted hostilities. However, the diplomat blamed Europe for this.

“We understand perfectly well that the Westerners are banking on the conflict continuing. The Westerners are banking on a complete rejection of any means of achieving a peaceful settlement. All attempts at dialogue are met with the Europeans’ irreconcilable desire to thwart any possibility of reaching agreements. It is unlikely that we will be able to reverse this trend in the near future. Europe will continue to fund Ukraine. And for our part, we must be prepared for fairly long-term military operations, but with a well-thought-out strategy,” Miroshnik stated.

He also stated that the war will be “quite serious and difficult.”

As a reminder, Ukraine and the U.S. have repeatedly appealed to Russia to begin negotiations.

On July 25, during a meeting in Omsk with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev publicly proposed freezing the war in Ukraine and continuing the negotiations that began in Istanbul.

However, the Kremlin is demanding that the conditions for a ceasefire—announced by Putin two years ago—be met first.

These include the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the entire territory of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions within their administrative borders; a refusal to join NATO; Ukraine’s non-nuclear status; and the lifting of all sanctions against Russia.

In mid-July, Bloomberg, citing sources close to the Kremlin, reported that Putin had toughened his demands regarding Ukraine.
