The Kremlin received a stern warning at the G20 summit.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a stern warning to the Kremlin regarding the war in Ukraine at the G20 summit on Monday.

According to Reuters reports, citing its sources, Bessent, during a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, made it clear that there would be no economic support for Russia or agreements on other issues until the war in Ukraine ends.

The publication notes that Bessent held a bilateral meeting with Siluanov on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers’ meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.

Earlier, the U.S. official told Reuters that the focus of the meeting between Bessent and Siluanov was President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Finance stated that the two officials discussed financial cooperation within the framework of the G20.

“When Siluanov attempted to discuss areas of mutual interest, a source reported that Bessent interrupted him and said: ‘Nothing is possible until the war ends,’ Reuters reported.

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov attended the G20 summit in person for the first time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The invitation was extended by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and drew condemnation and protests from European officials.

German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil stated that European ministers demanded that U.S. officials not to include the Russian Finance Minister in the traditional group photo of the summit, threatening a boycott if he appeared in the picture. As a result, the photo was taken without him, but with the Europeans present.
