Montenegrin BATE Player: Minsk Is Different From Balkan Cities

Luka Georgievich talked about how he is settling into life in Belarus.

BATE’s Montenegrin forward Luka Đorđević also spoke about his culinary preferences.

— Do you like Minsk?

— Very much. It’s different from Balkan cities, but I suppose you could find some similarities with Belgrade. Although you can still feel the difference. I like the city center. “Mayak Minsk”—where I live—is also very convenient. I like that the streets here are wide, there are lots of cafes where you can relax, lots of families, and people walking with their kids. And there’s a small park right next to the National Library. I go there almost every two or three days: I take a walk or just sit on a bench, like a retiree. My wife, Jovana (we have two sons: Mateja and Alexei), spent a week in Minsk, and she liked the city, too. But she had to leave—she’s already back in Podgorica—since the school year is starting.

— Which of our foods have you had a chance to try so far?

— I really like the bread. I also tried draniki, but I didn’t like them at the place I went to. Is it okay to say that? Will they beat me up?

— They’ll want to feed you more of them!

— Oh, well then, let’s give them another chance!

— What do you miss most about Balkan cuisine?

— I know beans are popular there. And we have lots of dishes like that with beans. Or, for example, sarma [Balkan stuffed cabbage rolls]. As for the rest, you can find everything in your stores.

— Have you compared prices to those in Montenegro yet?

— Yes, in some places they’re comparable, but prices in Montenegro have recently skyrocketed, so ours will still be a bit higher, — said Đorđević in an interview with “Onliner”.
