A Novatek Plant Is On Fire Near St. Petersburg

The General Staff revealed details of the successful strike.

On September 1, Ukrainian defense forces and special operations intelligence units successfully struck the Russian “Novatek-Ust-Luga” oil refinery complex in the Leningrad Oblast.

This was reported by Charter97.org citing a statement from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

“On September 1, 2026, operators from the Department of Active Operations and the Department of Unmanned Systems of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, as part of a joint deep-strike operation with the Ukrainian Defense Forces, struck the “Novatek-Ust-Luga” complex in the Leningrad Region of Russia”, the statement reads.

As a result of the strike, key components of the oil refinery, as well as critical process equipment, were destroyed.

A massive fire broke out at the plant following the strike. Intelligence sources emphasized that this facility directly fuels Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Ust-Luga is one of Russia’s largest commercial ports on the Baltic Sea, located in the Gulf of Finland. Significant volumes of strategic raw materials, including oil, petroleum products, coal, and mineral fertilizers, are transported through it.

The port area is home to large industrial and transshipment complexes, including facilities belonging to Novatek and EuroChem. Given the port’s vital role for the Russian economy and the defense-industrial complex, it has repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks.

As a reminder, today at the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region a fire and damage were reported following a drone strike. The region’s governor did not specify at the time which facility in the port area had been damaged.
