Republicans in Dallas, where the party convention was held, greeted U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance with chants of “48,” hinting at his potential election as the 48th U.S. president in the 2028 election.

During a closed-door breakfast in Dallas, delegates from key battleground states greeted Vance with shouts of “48.” According to four people present, the vice president himself did not mention the 2028 presidential election or his possible plans to run in it.

Speaking before his keynote address at the convention, Vance stated that the November 2026 midterm elections would be a choice between “level-headed Republicans” and, in his words, “crazy people” from the left. He emphasized that the party needs to make the election a national issue and focus on Democratic policies.

According to Politico, Vance argued that a Democratic victory in the election would mean the repeal of tax cuts and other economic achievements of the Republicans. The meeting was attended by Republican lawmakers, representatives of state party organizations, and convention delegates from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, the publication added.
