Belarus Names The Countries With The Largest Price Declines And Increases In August

In August, some stocks saw their prices rise or fall by tens of percent in a single day.

Looking at the overall statistics, consumer prices in Belarus changed very little over the last month of summer. Compared to July, they fell by 0.1%.

However, fluctuations were much more pronounced for certain goods and services. In August, the prices of some items rose or fell by as much as tens of percent.

Journalists investigated which items became the cheapest and which became the most expensive: myfin.by.

Top Decliners

Vegetable prices saw the sharpest drop in August. In fact, several items fell in price by more than a quarter over the course of the month.

Carrots set the record. Their price fell by 36.78%. Potatoes saw a nearly identical drop—down 36.72%.

Beets fell in price by 31.97%, and white cabbage by 28.8%. Rounding out the top five are fresh tomatoes, down 22.66%.

Top Gainers

Avocados stood out the most among items moving in the opposite direction. Over the course of August, this exotic fruit saw its price jump by 17.01%.

Motor oil wasn’t far behind—its price rose by 13.41%.

Fresh cut flowers also made it into the top three most expensive items. Over the month, they became 4.98% more expensive.

As for services, air travel saw the largest price increase. In August, passenger airfare rose by 6.41%.
