"Every Hour Counts"

A scandal is brewing in Mogilev over the horses at the Central Equestrian Sports School.
Information is circulating on social media that two racehorses—Babylon and Elegy—are being sent to slaughter. A local blogger was the first to raise the alarm. She called on Mogilev residents and anyone concerned to share the information as widely as possible.
According to her, the horses are already being transported to a meat processing plant, but there are people willing to buy them and ensure their continued care, writes bgmedia.
“The situation is critical; every hour counts,” the published appeal states.
It is important to note, however, that this information is currently being circulated by social media users. There is no official confirmation from the Mogilev Central Animal Rescue Center or any other responsible authority publicly available.
The post has generated a significant response. Users are calling on journalists to pay attention to the situation, demanding that people be given the opportunity to buy the animals, and asking the center’s administration very specific questions.
“It’s hard to believe that something like this is happening in this day and age. Reputation is an extremely fragile thing. I can’t imagine who would want to attend this school if it has such a ‘reputation,’” wrote one user.
Others are trying to figure out how it’s even possible to take the horses back. The comments also include stories from people who have already faced similar situations.
“In the past, they wouldn’t let me buy a horse from a training group, without explaining why at all. It happened at another state equestrian school. Why—it’s still a mystery to me. In the end, they sent her to the slaughterhouse. It would be great if this kind of thing stopped,” — shared one of the users.
There are also more cautious comments. People are trying to figure out whether the information is actually accurate and why, if buyers are willing to take the animals, they’re still sent to the slaughterhouse.
“It doesn’t make sense: there are people willing to buy them, but they’re still being taken to the slaughterhouse. What’s their reasoning? After all, they’d get their money faster from a buyout than from selling the meat. Are you sure you have reliable information?” — the user asks.
At the time this article was prepared, the Mogilev Center for Equestrian Sports and Modern Pentathlon had not publicly responded to users’ questions about Babylon and Elegy.
There is no information about this situation on the institution’s official website either. We were also unable to find any answers to these questions on their Instagram account.
