"KuibyshevAzot" manufactures products that are unique in the Russian Federation.
On the night of September 12, Ukrainian drones struck at least two Russian cities—Tolyatti in the Samara Region and Taganrog in the Rostov Region. In the first of these, struck the “KuibyshevAzot” chemical plant, which specializes, among other things, in the production of products unique to Russia.
In Taganrog, a fire broke out following the attack at a bankrupt automobile plant, where strike drones are currently being assembled; a military airfield was also hit. Details of the damage were revealed on the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Explosions in Togliatti
News of the explosions in Togliatti, Samara Oblast, Russian Federation, emerged toward morning. Russians reported an attack that, according to preliminary reports, targeted the “KuibyshevAzot” chemical plant.
Judging by footage taken by eyewitnesses, a fire broke out there.
Over time, the fire grew more intense.
The "KuibyshevAzot" chemical plant produces caprolactam, ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulfate, ammonia, dilute nitric acid, polyamide-6, and high-strength technical yarn. This is the only plant in Russia that manufactures the last two products.
Attack on Taganrog
It was noisy last night in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, as well.
According to Exilenova+, an automobile plant there came under attack.
“In Taganrog, the grounds of the Taganrog Automobile Plant were attacked; a fuel tank is on fire,” the report noted.
NASA satellites are detecting a fire on the premises of this facility. At least two fire hotspots are visible. And smoke is rising above the city.
As determined by an OSINT expert from the independent Russian publication ASTRA, smoke is rising, among other places, from the Taganrog military airfield.
“Taganrog-Central” is a military airfield in the Rostov Region of Russia, located within the city limits of Taganrog. The 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment is based at the airfield.
The 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, which repairs transport aircraft and components, also operates nearby.
Exilenova+ also reported that in Taganrog, “the airfield and military town were attacked; there is a fire there at the moment.”
Local news outlets confirmed that the drone attack had been successful.
“Taganrog—unfortunately, there is damage on the ground. Emergency services are on the scene. Further information will follow from official sources,” they wrote.
Confirmation from city authorities soon followed.
“Last night, our city came under a massive air attack. Air defense forces destroyed UAVs over the city. There are fires in several locations. Emergency service specialists are working at the crash sites. There are no casualties. Information regarding the consequences on the ground will be updated,” stated Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Rostov Region Yuri Slyusar, who “shot down” “more than 70 UAVs” overnight, noted only “a fire in a store building” in Taganrog.
Cars haven’t been manufactured at this plant for a long time: in 2014, the company was declared bankrupt. Instead, drones are now being assembled there. According to some reports, the TagAZ workshops are now used for the assembly of "Molniya" strike and reconnaissance drones and the production of components for "Orion" heavy UAVs.
