Scientists believe that tiny fragments of technology from potential extraterrestrials who disappeared long ago may have reached the Moon after traveling through interstellar space. Detecting these technological relics of extraterrestrial origin will likely be relatively simple. The study was published on the arXiv preprint server, according to Live Science (translation - "Focus").
Researchers have long been searching for signs of extraterrestrial technology in space, but have found nothing so far. The study’s authors believe that active extraterrestrial technologies may no longer exist, as potential alien civilizations may have already disappeared. However, remnants of these technologies can be found, in particular, on the Moon’s surface.
Because it lacks an atmosphere and a magnetic field, the Moon is constantly bombarded by meteorites and exposed to a continuous stream of microscopic particles that come not only from the Solar System but also from beyond its boundaries. Since there is no tectonic activity or liquid water on the Moon, these particles are preserved on its surface in lunar dust.
The study’s authors believe that this dust may contain tiny fragments of technology from long-vanished extraterrestrial civilizations. Fragments of massive artificial space structures, such as Dyson spheres or alien spacecraft, may have been destroyed following the demise of an extraterrestrial civilization. Tiny particles of metal or other artificial materials could have been ejected from star systems once inhabited by intelligent aliens by powerful stellar wind streams. Over long periods of time, they could have traveled through the galaxy, entered the Solar System, and ended up on the Moon.
Scientists believe that a thorough study of lunar dust could reveal traces of alien technology. Simulations have shown that technological fragments as small as 3 micrometers (about 3% the thickness of a human hair) are capable of traveling through interstellar space for a billion years.
Although no signs of alien technology have been found in any lunar rock samples, this does not mean they are not there, according to the study’s authors. It is likely that the scientists who studied these samples did not look for such fragments of extraterrestrial technology, or that the samples themselves were too small to yield the necessary results.
The researchers believe that a 1-cubic-meter sample of lunar regolith would be sufficient to detect at least one fragment of technology from a potential extraterrestrial civilization that has long since disappeared.
