A Car Carrying Seven People Without Documents Was Stopped In Latvia

A man suspected of transporting people who had illegally crossed the Belarusian-Latvian border was detained in Latvia. This was reported by “Zerkalo,” citing the country’s State Border Guard.

The incident occurred on Friday, September 11, in the Krāslava region of Latvia. While on patrol in the Ezernieki Parish, members of the Latvian National Armed Forces stopped a Citroën driven by a Latvian citizen.

There were seven people in the car. According to Latvian authorities, they did not have valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits. Border guards claim that they had illegally crossed the border from Belarus shortly before.

A criminal case has been opened against the driver. He is suspected of illegally transporting people across the state border while enhanced border security measures were in effect. Latvian law provides for criminal liability for such a violation.

As for the passengers, it is stated that border guards did not allow them to cross the border illegally. The Border Guard Service did not specify what happened to them afterward.
