One of the most vocal "hawks" in the Russian State Duma was drunk.

New details have emerged about the illness of the 73-year-old leader of the “Fair Russia” party Sergey Mironov, which is causing him to miss the election campaign. It turns out that the Kremlin ally suffered a serious injury while on a drinking binge. This was reported by Russian journalist Oleg Kashin, according to Dialog.UA.

In late August, reports emerged that Mironov had behaved erratically at one of his campaign events: he was unable to articulate his thoughts, stumbled over his words, and lost his train of thought.

Almost immediately, his security detail announced that he had suffered an “injury,” due to which the Russian politician was suspending his participation in the election campaign. This sparked rumors of a stroke and other serious illnesses. However, the truth turned out to be much more mundane, Kashin asserts.

“I’ll tell you about Sergei Mironov, whose health everyone has been anxiously monitoring in recent weeks. There were reports that he had a problem with his head, that he couldn’t speak coherently, and that it might be a stroke or Alzheimer’s—and that things were serious. Today, Mironov denied reports that he is unwell in an interview with the “Russia 24” TV channel—though he gave the interview by voice only, without a video connection. “In fact, after returning from a long hiatus to his usual drinking habits, Mironov was driving somewhere in Siberia between Barnaul and Sibirsk when he needed to relieve himself, tripped, fell into a ravine, and broke his neck,” — the journalist said.

It should be noted that Mironov is one of the most active “hawks” in the Russian State Duma. Since 2014, he has supported the aggression against Ukraine, demanding the occupation of the entire country.
