Boris Johnson Was On A Train That Was Attacked By Russia

On a passenger train that was attacked today, September 13, was traveling former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and one of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s closest advisers. This was reported by Der Spiegel citing sources.
As reported by “Ukrzaliznytsia,” 2 km from the border with Poland, the occupiers struck a passenger train locomotive. According to the publication, Günter Sautter, an advisor on foreign policy and security in Merz’s office, was traveling on this train from Kyiv toward Poland.
Around 5 a.m., the train stopped near the Polish border. Due to drone strikes, some of the passengers were evacuated.
The publication noted that in Kyiv, Sautter, along with security advisors from the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian government, discussed possible peace talks with Russia. On September 12, he attended the YES Annual Meeting 2026, an international security conference.
Journalists added that, in addition to Zautter, the train carried security advisers from other European governments, members of the Bundestag, diplomats, and scholars. Boris Johnson was also returning to Poland from the conference on this train.
Fortunately, everyone got off with just a scare: shortly after the train stopped due to an alert regarding the detection of drones, and the conductors woke the passengers to evacuate, the alert was called off because no other drones were found, the publication noted.
Also on the train was Robin Wagner, a member of the German Green Party in the Bundestag.
“I just returned from Kyiv. The air defense operations and drone attacks—all of this was more intense than during my previous visits. And this morning, I was traveling by train along the very same route where this attack took place. Sometimes it’s just a matter of chance whether you’ll make it to your destination safe and sound. Especially after Russian terrorists had decided in advance to carry out this attack. Russia poses a massive threat to Europe’s security. Too many of us still haven’t realized this. Our support for Ukraine in defending itself against this threat remains far too half-hearted,” Wagner wrote on his page on the social media platform X.
