CBS: U.S. Navy Ships In The Arabian Sea Have Been Placed On High Alert

Yemeni Houthis have advanced along the coast toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The crews of the U.S. aircraft carrier USS George Washington and guided-missile destroyers in the Arabian Sea have been placed on high alert. The decision was made due to a potential threat in the Red Sea from forces of the Shiite Ansar Allah movement (the Houthis). This was reported by CBS News.

According to the television network, the increase in the U.S. Navy’s combat readiness is linked to the fact that Yemeni Houthis have advanced along the coast toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Last week, Ansar Allah forces captured the port city of Mocha, Reuters reported, citing sources. In addition, the Houthis have taken control of the entire Yemeni Red Sea coastline, which was previously controlled by government forces.

As reported by Axios, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman twice contacted U.S. President Donald Trump by phone to request airstrikes against Houthi positions. The U.S. president refused.
