Strikes By The Ukrainian Armed Forces Have Disrupted Explosives Production In Russia

Moscow has banned the export of sulfuric acid.

Russian authorities have suddenly halted sulfuric acid exports. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree banning exports on September 12, according to Russian media reports.

The new rules will take effect 10 days after the decree is officially published. The restrictions will remain in effect until December 31, 2026.

Exporting sulfuric acid outside the Russian Federation will be permitted only in emergency cases and with the approval of Mishustin or his deputies.

Stanimir Dobrev , a respected economic commentator, commented on the decision. He linked the export restriction to Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian chemical plants.

“Russia has banned the export of sulfuric acid until the end of 2026. Russia had previously acknowledged a shortage in sulfur production, which is most likely linked to Ukrainian strikes,” he wrote.

Russian industry needs sulfuric acid not only for fertilizer production. It is also used, among other things, in the manufacture of explosives.
