E-residents Have Established More Than 4,200 Companies In Estonia Since The Beginning Of The Year

Since the beginning of 2026, e-residents have registered more than 4,200 companies in Estonia—approximately 36% more than during the same period last year. Of these, 80% of the new companies established by e-residents were founded by people who obtained this status in 2026 or 2025, according to err.ee.

Since the beginning of the year, approximately 9,000 people have joined the e-residency program. Among those who received e-residency status in the first months of the year, 34% have already registered a company in Estonia—a record figure, representatives of the e-residency program reported on Tuesday, September 15.

According to their data, in the first seven months of the year, e-residents’ activities generated 57.6 million euros in direct revenue for Estonia. This included 35.3 million euros in payroll taxes, 19.5 million in income tax on dividends, and another 2.8 million euros in government fees.

In total, since the program’s launch, more than 144,000 people from 187 countries have obtained e-resident status. They have founded or become co-founders of more than 44,000 Estonian companies.

According to the program’s data, in 2025, e-residents purchased business services from Estonian companies totaling more than 18 million euros. Over the course of the year, revenue from serving e-residents grew by 17%.

The program notes that approximately one in five new companies in Estonia is established with the participation of an e-resident.

An Estonian e-resident is a foreign citizen who does not live in Estonia and does not have a residence permit there, but has received a digital ID card from the state.
