NATO Reveals The Kremlin's Immediate Plans For Europe

Russia is trying to undermine European democracies and discourage support for Ukraine, by resorting to sabotage and cyberattacks. NATO explained whether this tactic has a chance of success.

What Is the Kremlin’s Goal?

A spokesperson for NATO headquarters stated that hostile attempts to destabilize Europe are nothing new. According to him, the main goal of such actions is to undermine trust in democratic institutions and force Western countries to stop providing further aid to Kyiv.

“Russia wants to instill fear, destabilize our societies, and dissuade us from supporting Ukraine. This will not work. Allies and partners continue to observe a range of hybrid activities or actions in the ‘gray zone,’ including cyberattacks, information threats, political interference, and sabotage,” a NATO spokesperson said.

What is known about Russia’s subversion campaign in Europe

Meanwhile, NATO previously reported that the Alliance is strengthening its cyber defenses and information sharing in response to threats from Russia.

According to a NATO spokesperson, the allies have agreed to allocate more resources to protecting critical infrastructure and to expand data sharing in order to detect new hybrid threats in a timely manner.

As a reminder, Poland has released statistics on investigations into espionage on behalf of foreign intelligence services.

In the first eight months of 2026, law enforcement opened at least 40 new cases under the relevant article, while there were 67 such cases in all of 2025.
