A Resident Of Novopolotsk On Her Job Search: I've Already Been Turned Down 16 Times

The Belarusian woman wasn't expecting a high salary.

A resident of Novopolotsk, m.illusion_maker, shared her experience looking for a job in her hometown.

“Is there really no decent job in Novopolotsk with a 5/2 schedule?” she writes. “I’ve already received 16 rejections without even getting to an interview. And that’s even though 1,200 would be enough for me.”

Social media users confirmed the difficult job market in the country’s regions. The website Charter97.org features some comments:

- There are no decent jobs here, no matter what the schedule is.

- I worked in Polotsk on a 5/2 schedule, at a shabby little office for minimum wage; I don’t know how I managed to stick it out there for almost a year, but I finally got out of there.

- You obviously haven’t looked for a job in Glubokoe yet. And finding an apartment is impossible—it’s a vicious cycle.

- Don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

- The town is dead. There are hardly any organizations.
