In Taganrog, Firefighters Have Been Unable To Extinguish A Fire For Four Days Following A Drone Attack

Residents of Taganrog in the Rostov Region reported that the city is shrouded in smoke from a fire that broke out following a Ukrainian drone attack, which firefighters have been battling since September 12. “The store has been burning for four days now, and all the stench—chemicals and combustion byproducts—is drifting straight into the city! In one neighborhood, they’ve cut off all the water to put out the fire, but it’s not helping… Soon everyone here will be getting cancer,” residents complained to “Ostrozhno, Novosti.”
Earlier, the mayor of Taganrog Svetlana Kambulova confirmed that a fire is still burning at one of the facilities damaged on Saturday. According to her, air quality in the city is being constantly monitored, and “Rospotrebnadzor specialists have not recorded any concentrations of harmful substances exceeding the maximum permissible limits.” However, in the comments on Kambulova’s post, people write that “it is very difficult for residents of the side streets adjacent to Mariupol Highway to breathe” and complain about the “black sky.”
The “Taganrog-Central” military airfield in Taganrog continues to burn, as Astra determined based on an analysis of eyewitness videos. The 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment is based at the facility. Also nearby is the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, which repairs transport aircraft and their components.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that two UAV storage facilities, a facility for manufacturing FPV drones, the “Pantsir-S2” anti-aircraft missile and gun system, a fuel and lubricant storage tank, and a P-18 “Terek” radar station. Local authorities reported damage to 16 commercial facilities, five vehicles, and the “Avangard” stadium.
On the night of September 15, Taganrog was again attacked by drones. The governor of the Rostov Region Yuri Slyusar reported “multiple impacts on the ground” and several fires. According to him, two apartment buildings and three private homes, an educational institution, commercial buildings, agricultural enterprise warehouses, a grocery store, and an Ozon logistics center were damaged. A state of emergency was declared in the city, and public transportation was restricted. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case regarding the terrorist attack.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the “Atlant Aero” facility—which manufactures “Molniya”-type strike and reconnaissance drones and components for “Orion” drones—had been struck. They emphasized that the plant supplies the Russian army in its war against Ukraine.
