An Unusual Hybrid Of A Mazda And A Chevrolet Corvette Has Been Created In Japan

A modern MX-5 has been transformed into an American classic from the 1960s.

A first-generation Chevrolet Corvette has been recreated in Japan. The replica sports car is based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The Chevrolet Corvette replica is being developed by the Japanese company Mitsuoka, which specializes in creating such replicas of classic cars based on modern models. The sports car will be unveiled in November, according to the website Motor1.

In the meantime, the Japanese manufacturer has released photos of the car, dubbed the Mitsuoka LA1. The convertible bears a strong resemblance to the 1961–1962 Chevrolet Corvette. It features a long hood, four round headlights, and a tapered rear end, with plenty of chrome accents. The bumpers and wheel rims are also styled after the 1960s.

However, this replica of the Chevrolet Corvette is significantly smaller than the original, as it is built on the platform of the current-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. Judging by the photos, the interior of the Japanese roadster has not been modified.

The Mitsuoka LA1’s specifications will be revealed during the presentation. The Chevrolet Corvette clone is expected to retain the Mazda MX-5’s powertrain. As is well known, the Japanese sports car is available with 1.5-liter (130 k.s.) and 2.0-liter (184 k.s.) engines, paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
