The SBU Foiled An FSB Assassination Attempt On A Russian Opposition Leader Who Had Traveled To Ukraine For Independence Day

Ukrainian security services foiled an assassination attempt on one of the leaders of the Russian opposition, who had arrived to celebrate the country's Independence Day, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

“The SBU, in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, thwarted a terrorist attack that the Russian FSB was planning against one of the leaders of a Russian opposition political national movement who had arrived in Ukraine for the country’s Independence Day celebrations,” the statement said.

The SBU did not disclose the name of the alleged target. It is also unknown at this time where and how the attack was planned to be carried out.

Ukraine celebrated Independence Day on August 24.

Operational and investigative activities are currently ongoing.
