Russia Launched A Massive Attack On Odessa On City Day

On the night of September 2, the Russian army launched a massive combined strike on Odessa, resulting in many injuries and widespread destruction. Today marks Odessa’s City Day.
According to a correspondent UNIAN, an air raid alert was declared around 2:00 a.m., and powerful explosions soon began in the city. Monitoring channels reported that the city was being attacked, in particular, with guided aerial bombs and “Banderole” drone missiles. People were also warned of a ballistic threat.
Local authorities urged residents to remain in shelters, as the city is under a massive enemy attack. Damage to infrastructure and the destruction of residential buildings had already been reported. Eyewitnesses reported fires on social media.
In the morning, the head of the Odessa Military Administration Sergey Lysak spoke about the consequences of the strikes.
“It was a difficult night for Odessa. The enemy once again launched a massive attack on the city. Infrastructure was damaged. At this time, we know of eight people injured, including a child. Two people have been hospitalized,” the official noted.
According to him, a 24-story residential building was damaged—apartments on several floors were destroyed. Windows were shattered in neighboring buildings. Cars were damaged. Office buildings and two educational institutions were also damaged.
“Experts are continuing to assess the consequences of the attack in several areas of the city. Emergency and utility services are working on the ground. Power company workers are trying to restore electricity as quickly as possible. Emergency response centers have been set up where people can receive the necessary assistance,” the official wrote.
The mayor’s office press service clarified that, according to preliminary data, 13 residential buildings were damaged in the Kyivskyi district of the city (more than 600 windows were shattered). Two high schools and offices in the Primorsky district were also damaged.
Public utility services are cleaning up the area and helping residents temporarily board up broken windows with OSB panels and plastic sheeting.
It is also reported that trams and trolleybuses were temporarily out of service in the city due to damage to infrastructure.
According to the mayor’s office press service, as of 8 a.m., electric transit began operating on certain routes. Residents were warned that trams and trolleybuses would be operating on shortened routes for the time being.
For residents of the Peresypsky District, deliveries of non-potable water have been organized due to interruptions in the water supply. It is reported that starting at 9:00 a.m., water tankers will be stationed at eight locations: in Enthusiasts Park, on Akademika Zabolotnogo Street, Yaroslav Baissa Street, Vladislav Buvalkin, 28th Brigade, Semen Paliy, and so on.
