One of the suspects in the attempted Russian attack on the Leipzig airport on August 4 is a Belarusian citizen. Traces of his DNA were found at the scene, according to Deutsche Welle.

It is claimed that this man, who, according to some reports, also holds a Russian passport, has previously been convicted of criminal offenses in the Baltic states. German investigators were able to reconstruct his entry and exit routes, and an investigation by NDR, WDR, and SZ revealed that he entered the Schengen Area on an Italian tourist visa. Law enforcement authorities determined that this document was issued in late April at the Italian diplomatic mission in Minsk.

Investigators also identified a second suspect who holds Russian and Latvian passports.

Earlier, the German government linked the August 4 drone attack involving explosives at Leipzig Airport to Russia.

As a reminder, on August 4, an attempted sabotage attack against a Ukrainian An-124 cargo plane took place at Leipzig Airport. Media outlets reported, citing information from German investigative authorities, that several drones were involved in the alleged attack. One of the UAVs carrying explosives was detected near several Ukrainian cargo planes; the second likely crashed into a DHL cargo plane just minutes after the first was detected.
