An Explosion Occurred At An Ammunition Depot In Azerbaijan

A massive fire broke out.

In the Goranboy District in western Azerbaijan, near the village of Nizami, an explosion occurred at an ammunition depot on the night of September 2. The incident triggered a major fire accompanied by a series of detonations, forcing the evacuation of residents from nearby settlements. This was reported by the agency ARA.

According to a joint statement by Azerbaijan’s Ministries of Emergency Situations, Defense, and Internal Affairs, a fire broke out at the site of the explosion, but no local residents were injured. For safety reasons, approximately 5,000 people were evacuated from the areas adjacent to the facility.

Later, the first deputy head of the executive branch of the Goranboy District Seymur Nazarov reported that the explosion did not affect residential buildings in neighboring villages—reports of damage to residential structures as a result of the incident have not been confirmed.

Authorities have not yet provided any information regarding the causes of the explosion or the exact circumstances of the incident.
