The Russian FSB tortured her with electric shocks.
For several years now, Russian security forces have been terrorizing a puppet theater actress from occupied Donetsk Olga Shchekina.
The young woman “offended” authorities by posting a couple of videos with Ukrainian songs online. Now her life has turned into a living hell. The details were reported by the independent Russian publication Astra.
The story of Shchekina’s persecution began after she posted several videos set to Ukrainian songs on social media in April 2023. After that, the occupiers began harassing her.
In late May 2023, Shchekina was detained and forced to record a video apology. However, this did not save her. In August, an occupying “court” fined her 77,000 rubles, accusing her of “calls for separatism” and “displaying prohibited symbols.”
In June 2024, Shchekina was detained again. This time, the reason was a video showing the aftermath of a Ukrainian strike on the FSB building in Donetsk. The Russians claim that she allegedly sent the video to a Ukrainian media outlet.
FSB officers beat her and subjected her to electric shock torture in her own apartment. Russian security forces also tried to coerce her into cooperating and threatened her with criminal charges of treason. After that, administrative cases were brought against her several times, including for “petty hooliganism” and “violation of the curfew.”
In the fall of 2025, Shchekina was detained at a checkpoint while attempting to leave the occupied territory. She was then sent to a temporary detention center in Taganrog. Now the persecution has continued in Rostov, Russia.
On September 7, she was detained on the street, had her phone and personal belongings confiscated, and was placed in a detention center on charges of “petty hooliganism.” The Russians are using so-called “carousel arrests” against her—she is repeatedly arrested immediately after being released from the detention center.
According to the latest reports, Shchekina was taken once again to occupied Donetsk, and then transferred to Rostov. She has now been released after paying a fine. However, there is a possibility that this is not the end and that the harassment of this young woman will continue.
