Russia Attacked High-rise Buildings, A Shopping Center, And A University In Zaporizhzhia

Large-scale fires broke out in the city.

On the night of September 21, Russian forces launched a massive attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia, according to a report from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES). As a result of the shelling, two nine-story residential buildings were damaged, and fires broke out in them.

A shopping center and a higher education institution also caught fire. A total of five people were injured, five others were rescued, and 14 were evacuated from the burning buildings. “Efforts are currently underway to address the aftermath of the enemy attack,” the SES noted.

The previous evening, Russian strike drones attacked Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, one woman was injured in the Ukrainian capital. In three districts of the region—Fastiv, Bucha, and Obukhiv—fires broke out in an industrial zone, at a car service station, and in a private home. The State Emergency Service (SES) reported that the fires had been extinguished only on the morning of September 21. There were no fatalities or injuries. The Russian military also attacked Sumy twice the previous evening. One of the strikes hit near a high-rise residential building. A woman was killed, and her husband sustained multiple shrapnel wounds, according to the head of the regional administration Oleg Grigorov.
