"We Went Mushroom Hunting, But Ended Up On A Safari"

The Belarusians had to postpone their "mushroom hunt."

A resident of the Mogilev District kat_stavirskaya recounted an unexpected encounter with wild boars that had wandered into a field near residential homes.

“We were driving out to pick mushrooms, but ended up on a safari,” she writes. “The lords of the forest came right up to the car and didn’t seem the least bit afraid of us. It looks like our mushroom hunt is officially postponed!”

“We thought they’d run away, but our presence didn’t really bother them.”

Belarusians noted that wild boars are increasingly venturing out of the forest toward people’s homes. The website Charter97.org features some comments:

- My girlfriend and I went into an empty forest about three weeks ago, trudging sadly deeper into it. Oh, the ground was dug up by a boar’s snout... Oh, a pile of wild boar droppings… And then a little wild boar took off running! Ira, there are no mushrooms—let’s go home. And how we ran, oh how we ran.

- Three sows with four piglets. Yeah… It wasn’t a pleasant sight. Very dangerous. Sure, it’s interesting to film these little oinking animals like that. But it’s scary.

- I ran into one like that when I was a kid, only its tusks were about 10 centimeters long. I ran one way, and it ran the other. Then it turned out that on my side there was a wall of bushes, taller than I am… I hadn’t even noticed them. We had a good mushroom hunt.
