Bentley Is Developing The Most Powerful Car In Its History

The presentation is timed to coincide with the company's founding anniversary.

On September 23, Bentley will unveil the Torcal—the brand’s first production electric vehicle. The new luxury SUV will also be the company’s most powerful vehicle, according to Autoblog.

The premiere will take place at 7:19 p.m. local time. This is a nod to 1919, when Walter Owen Bentley founded the company.

The Torcal will be hand-assembled at the Bentley factory in Crewe, UK. To launch production, the company has invested more than 350 million pounds in retrofitting the facility and a new paint line.

The electric vehicle is built on the PPE platform, developed by Porsche and also used in the new electric Cayenne. According to preliminary data, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system will deliver over 838 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.

The 113 kWh battery will provide a range of up to 373 miles on the WLTP cycle. Charging from 10 to 80 percent using a 400 kW charging station will take less than 20 minutes.
Bentley promises to preserve the brand’s character despite the transition to electric propulsion. “A true Bentley that just happens to be electric”—that’s how the company describes the concept behind the new car.

The Torcal will feature active suspension tuned by Bentley. The manufacturer aims to combine the comfort of the Flying Spur with the handling of the Continental GT, while also giving the car off-road capabilities unusual for a Bentley.

“We want to set new standards of quality,” the company states.

For now, the final specifications and design are being kept under wraps. The full unveiling will take place on September 23.
