European Leaders Will Press The U.S. To Supply Additional Patriot Systems To Ukraine

Europeans will also urge other countries to provide financial support to Ukraine.

This week, during the UN General Assembly sessions in New York, European leaders plan to urge U.S. President Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with more Patriot interceptor missiles.

This was reported by Bloomberg on Monday, September 21.

“The U.S. could replenish its reserves, and we would be able to get through the winter,” Zelenskyy said. The U.S. response to this proposal remains unknown.

According to the publication, European leaders will also urge other countries—notably the United Kingdom and Japan—to provide financial support to Ukraine. Germany and some other European countries have already announced this month that they will purchase additional Patriot systems and provide missiles from their own stockpiles to help Ukraine repel Russia’s expected winter offensive.

It is ballistic missiles that cause the most damage to Ukrainian infrastructure—particularly energy facilities—and only Patriot systems can counter them.

Since August, Russia has significantly reduced its use of ballistic missiles in favor of jet-powered drones; according to the publication’s analysts, this may indicate that Moscow is stockpiling them for massive strikes against Ukraine’s energy and heating infrastructure during the cold season, which traditionally begins in late October or early November.
