The U.S. Wants To Halt Flights By Iranian Airlines Worldwide

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that, starting September 23, Iranian airlines will not be able to operate international flights. In an interview with CNBC, he clarified that airports and companies serving Iranian carriers risk being cut off from the dollar payment system.

“How will we do this? If they land, you won’t be able to supply them with fuel. You won’t be able to provide them with ground handling services, you won’t be able to sell them tickets—otherwise, you’ll be cut off from the dollar system,” the Treasury Secretary emphasized. He added that Washington is putting pressure on Iran “like never before,” noting that the U.S. is cracking down on Iran’s accomplices around the world, including in the banking sector.

Earlier, on September 8, the U.S. Treasury Department announced restrictions under Operation Economic Outcast. Twenty-seven Iranian airlines were subject to sanctions. Following this, Georgia announced the suspension of air service with Iran.
